History
1956년 6월, 미국 아시아재단의 원조를 받아 한국 최초의 인문사회학 연구원인 '한국연구원'이 문을 열게 되었고, 백낙준 총장이 최초의 이사장으로 취임하였다.
인문사회학 저널을 다량 구입하고 정기 구독해서 연구자들에게 제공. 매일신보의 경우 국내에서 가장 많은 자료를 확보하고 있다.
국내에서는 대동여지도 채색본 중 유일하게 독도가 표기되어 있는 지도를 소장 중이다.
