2021년 4월 19일 네이버 시사상식사전에 등재된 단어 플로깅에 대한 설명이다. 사전에 따르면 ‘이삭을 줍는다’는 뜻인 스웨덴어 plocka upp과 영어 단어 jogging(조깅)의 합성어로, 조깅하면서 쓰레기를 줍는 행동을 말한다. 2016년 스웨덴에서 처음 시작돼 북유럽을 중심으로 빠르게 확산됐다. 쓰레기를 줍기 위해 앉았다 일어나는 동작이 스쿼트 운동 자세와 비슷하다는 데서 생겨난 플로깅은 쓰레기를 담은 봉투를 들고 뛰기 때문에 단순한 조깅보다 칼로리 소비가 많고, 환경도 보호한다는 점에서 호응을 얻고 있다고 설명하고 있다.
