1884 미국감리회해외여선교회(W.F.M.S.) 뉴잉글랜드 지부와 뉴욕 지부에서 최초의 한국 선교사로 임명
1886-05-31 스크랜튼 선생의 자택에서 첫 학생을 받아 가르침(이화 창립일)
1886-11 서울 정동에서 최초의 한옥교사 완성하여 이사
1887-02 고종으로부터 '이화학당' 명칭을 하사 받음(공립학교의 지위 공인)
1890-05 로드와일러 선생에게 이화학당 당장직 물려주고 전도사업에 전력
1908-05-31 이화학당 초대 메이퀸에 초대
1909-10-08 서울 자택에서 별세 / 양화진 외인선교사묘지에 안장
2009-12-21 국민훈장 무공화장 수훈
